The first day at OISE Heidelberg

All students receive a welcome letter in the host family or hotel giving details of arrangements for the first day and instructions about how to get to the school. Depending on the programme the students write the level test before the course start (initial test is enclosed in the letter and should be done before Monday morning) or on the first day at school. This will enable OISE to plan the course and assign the Quatorial student to a group that is appropriate to the student's level.

A typical Monday morning at OISE Heidelberg

  • The school manager welcomes all new students and introduces the OISE team.

  • The OISE team explains the timetables to each student and gives information about  the school facilities and the leisure programme.

  • New group students write the initial level test and are integrated in their respective group according to their results. The Tutorial students bring their test already with them - which the tutor corrects during the Monday morning - and complete a detailed Needs Analysis with a tutor to ensure that all specific needs are covered.

  • During the first break the students have the opportunity to speak to each other, check their e-mails, have a cup of tea/coffee, consult their tutors and raise any questions concerning the leisure programme and organisational aspects.

  • The second intensive lesson takes place: the group students work on their comprehension and written expression ,  the Tutorial students continue their indivual tailored tuitions.

  • Lunchtime: students have the opportunity to gather around, to consult the school team, to get to know the surroundings, to read  newspapers or magazines, to do their homework, to prepare themselves for the afternoon lessons, or to relax and sun on our terrace.

  • The afternoon programme with guided debate practice, presentations, active listening practice or letter writing takes place.

  • To relax after concentrating on intensive language learning students participate in the guided tour to the castle and the old town.
